What Is Marine Plywood? 

Marine plywood is a type of plywood designed to be used in areas that are exposed to dampness or submerged in water; hence the name. It was initially invented in the 1930s when a new waterproof adhesive was developed. This grade of plywood was allegedly used to make boats during World War II. Standard plywood comes in four grades: A, B, C, and D, with A being the best. When it comes to marine plywood, a dual grading system is followed. This means that both sides of the plywood sheet are graded separately. An A-B grade board of plywood, for example, has one side which is crisp, and practically flawless while the other side is a knottier, looser side. A-B grades are more economical where only one side of the plywood sheet is on display.
